Hello, ladies and gentlemen, welcome back to the Minnoxide Podcast. I am your host, Harris, aka Minnoxide, local, I don't know, Minnesota photographer, content creator, man of many things. And I'm here with my co-host, Sean.
Hey guys, I'm your above average car enthusiast. If you have a cool, unique car, probably know about it. So we have our guest today here, Erik. He's been on the show before, Erik.
What up?
Our first ever guest. You guys may remember Erik from, what was that, episode two, I think it was?
Episode two.
Might have been three. Either way, he was our first ever guest on the podcast because I know that it's just awesome to talk to you. You're excited. Don't worry about the camera, by the way. That's one thing that people look at.
Yeah, that's new for you.
What's up, creepy?
Erik was our, I mean, dude, that was like, we had Echo in the garage, the mics were garbage. It was ridiculous. So for people that are new to the podcast, because we have grown significantly since you were last on, I think it was, it's been six months now. Holy crap.
Yeah, it was middle of winter.
Yeah, it was like, yeah, around December.
I parked my truck around some snow banks, so.
Well, for those of you that are new to this podcast, this podcast, we take people beyond the meat. I've known Erik for some time in the car community, but the goal of this podcast is to get to know people more than the five minutes you see them at a car meet. I think that's pretty evident in how we've operated so far. So, let's just remind people, who the hell are you?
Well, if you only see me for the five minutes at the car meet, I'm the a****** with the bloom of iron, so.
A******, come on, you're a sweetheart.
No, that's me, car collection and car enthusiast and business owner, so.
I don't think enthusiast does wonders for you because you have gone to hell and back with your builds.
Yeah, I've been three years on the Datsun. We're finishing up in the next couple of weeks. And then we have another Datsun arriving today. So, that's pretty exciting. We have a 71 Datsun 510 arriving today. So, hopefully, I'll be able to post some more about that soon, so.
Should we get an update on the Roadster?
Yeah, sure. Well, Harris came to see it yesterday at the shop. It's coming along great, looks great, performs great. There's minor things that all have to fix, like, in the wintertime when it's down.
As with any project car?
Yeah, as with any project car. We'll just change things that I already know that I want to change, but I don't want to sacrifice the rest of the season not having the car. So the goal is to get it out on the road in the next couple of weeks, and then obviously have it as, I think, I would like to have it as many shows as possible for the rest of the season.
So you plan on taking that to more shows than the McLaren now?
Probably. I'll try and convince the wife to take the McLaren, you know, just because she likes driving it. And it's a pretty blue.
She loves the blue.
Yeah, and everybody recognizes that car. So it's like, all right, bring the Datsun along with it to kind of like, in a way, promote the build of the Datsun. I think it's, you know, they're underrepresented in the Midwest, for sure. And then as a whole, I mean, it's a dead car, right?
Yeah.
They don't exist anymore. So it's like, it's just fun to have people become more aware of what it is. Side note, the, I will be submitting the Datsun to be part of the Z display at MNCC.
No way.
So they posted, they wanted all the different generations of Zs.
I was going to text you about that too. And I'm like, well, his isn't a Z.
Yeah, it's not a Z. But in Japan, it's labeled, it's badged as a fair lady, which what came before the Z was the fair lady, and then it was the fair lady Z, right? So I messaged them like, hey, would you accept another generation? But it's a fair lady. And it just so happens that I'm badging my car as a fair lady because it is a resto mod. I didn't want to put on the original Datsun 1600 badge. So I do have a fair lady badge going on. So it kind of fits the motif, hopefully, for their show and their generations display. And hopefully, they like it enough that they're cool with it being in there because it's not original. It is a resto mod.
Can we take a moment to acknowledge how beautiful that badge is, by the way? The Japanese cars, for example, the Supra badge, it's one of the most iconic badges of all time. That fair lady badge, it looks so good.
Cursive. It's just different. You don't see cursive badges all the time.
Yeah, instead of like the monoblock, like American typewriter font that they use on all their cars.
And that's what that car came with was, you know, the typewriter font Datsun 1600. No emotion. Right? And then you have a cursive font, fair lady, like you give it a personality. Yeah.
And he was telling me, Harris was telling me that, you know, you got to be a certain size to fit in this car. Is it fitted just for you?
I don't even know if it's fitted for me, to be honest. It's small. We're going to see if we can move the pedals in a little bit more so then I can even relax my legs a little bit more. But yeah, we did move the seat back from its normal stock location to fit me more. And then I downsized the steering wheel to be a vintage Momo steering wheel, but so that it's a smaller diameter so that it doesn't rub like your inner thigh when you're turning the steering wheel.
I had that experience with a Corvette, the C1, and the steering wheel is huge. It's massive, round, and it doesn't move.
It's there.
It's just there. And my legs...
It's like a bus because it didn't have power steering, so you wanted leverage with a bigger steering wheel so you could turn it.
And my legs are so long, it was definitely made for the shorter man in mind. And it was like, if I wanted to turn, I'm scraping off part of my thigh.
And I'm concerned slightly because obviously with no power steering, the smaller and smaller steering wheel you get, the more difficult it is to turn. And it's already a pretty thin wood steering wheel. So it's not like you have a ton of grip.
The faster you go, the easier it is to turn.
Sadly, I don't know how 1967 steering linkage will handle as well. So we'll see.
It'll be interesting to see that thing on a track, because I know we talked a little bit about it potentially doing that, like auto class or something, because it's perfect for that.
As soon as I drive it, I'll know if it's track worthy, put it like that.
Well it's tough because you're also trying to keep it showy too.
But you can always clean a car. As long as you're running time trials and you're not bumping and grinding, I think it's fine.
Pumping and grinding, I love it. What about safety? Because I know you're talking about some bar or whatever on the back.
I talked to one of the guys that works up at Brainerd. It was a track event for Corvettes and stuff. They were inviting me or the McLaren or whatever and I asked them about cars without any of the roll bars or windshield, you know, stuff like that. And he was like, oh yeah, it shouldn't be an issue. So I was like, all right, cool. I mean, wear a helmet and you're good, I guess. So I mean, yeah, it's kind of reckless on my part, I suppose. But I'm like, at the same time, like, you don't really roll a car like that.
In order for that car to roll.
When you're not racing other people, you know, like, head to head.
Yeah. You're not getting pit and maneuvered into the wall.
Exactly.
So much would have to go wrong before it rolls. You'd be dead anyway.
And to think that that roll bar would actually do something.
Oh, they definitely do. I mean, there's a reason why they were...
I mean, in this car, though. So like, the roll bar would probably hold steady, right? But it's fastened to, like, a pop can of a chassis, right? So it'd probably just punch holes out the bottom and still get crushed, is my, I guess, my point to it.
You're just going to land in a tree and be like a Christmas ornament because it's so small.
100%.
No, I love, I've been loving how active you've been on Instagram lately too. It looks phenomenal. I love seeing the updates. Like yesterday, he's like, oh, I can't leave you without an update. Like, cause you got the new, what was it? Help me out here. The f******.
The 911?
No, no, no, no. No, no, no, the shift. I'm having troubles. It's an 8 a.m. over here, folks.
The manual?
Yeah, the manual top thing.
I was like, I was like, catch the update. So, I had this shift knob for the Datsun build. It's so silly, right? Because it's just a shift knob. But when I started the build, I like to think that my attention to detail is far superior than everybody else, which is so wrong. But at least I'm honest with it.
So if these aren't petty jabs, I don't know what is.
And that's not to say that other people's attention to detail is not there.
But it isn't.
But when you build a car, you can just paint it and put an engine in it and be done, or you can care about the shift knob.
You can skip some steps.
Yeah, you can care about what color is the powder coat of your brake calipers. You can just care about little stuff or not, right? You can just get it done.
Well, it's art. If it's a car that you're building the way you are, you do want it to be a rolling timepiece, or an art piece, sorry.
Yep. And so the shift knob was, I picked it out early on in the build. It's basically, it's called like a Domo doll or whatever, but I don't know. I can't remember the real name right off the top. But anyways, in Japan, they have these dolls you paint in the eyes at New Year's, and it's like good luck charm type of deal. So it looks like one of those, but for the shift knob, and it just kind of throws back old school Japanese vibes which is, for me, just like childhood. So I had to have it.
So did you kind of do this build based off of that?
No, it's just when I found it, it wasn't threaded for my shift knob, and it's wood, and I'm asking LJ, hey, can you thread it to make it work? And he's like, gosh, I don't know. Because it's wood, and it's with a little weird metal insert. And so if you do it wrong on the lathe, it's like it's destroyed, right? You gotta buy another one, type of deal. And it's like, it's dumb just to have this little thing. Why don't you just put a regular, nice Nismo or some other Datsun shift knob. Right?
It's different. Yeah, tell people who LJ is a little bit, because some people might not know about him.
Oh yeah, I reference LJ. He is the shop owner at Full Blown Motorsports, and they're doing the build, I mean, for all practical reasons. I help with little stuff like upholstery, or the windshield, or the details.
The things other people do wrong.
And the design, yeah. But LJ, Derek and Evren, those guys are the real people that put in the sweat.
Is there only three guys total in that shop?
Yeah, Derek and Evren are the two main guys that are the mechanics, and then LJ runs the shop.
They put out a lot of work just between the three of them.
Yeah.
That's a big shop. Well, I went to go visit it for the first time yesterday, and I met LJ for the first time. I'm like, huh, like, I don't know. It's just not what I... It was just everything about that whole...
There's a lot going on for three people. Like, when you think about it, yeah.
I mean, they put out some serious cars out of there.
Yeah, and I mean, and they have a dyno, which, I mean, that's kind of... It's nice when your tuner basically doesn't have to take it to another place to dyno your stuff, and it's just all right there. But you're talking about a three-guy shop, and then they have full fabrication and a dyno, and the knowledge that they have on everything Japanese is phenomenal.
Hey, Sean.
Hey, Eris.
Do you need a roofer?
I could use a guy.
Well, I'm glad you agree. I saw you definitely need a roofer. And guess what? I think we know a guy. Do you remember Erik from the podcast like a million episodes ago?
Yeah, of course.
Well, guess what? He is the Twin Cities finest contractor, all right? He'll get you taken care of because this summer, Minnesota being Minnesota, it's going to throw hail at your roof. It's gonna have tornadoes throwing shingles off your roof. You know what? You don't know what's gonna end up up there. And he's gonna get you taken care of because when you Google Solaris Roofing, you're gonna see five big, beautiful yellow stars, and they're gonna be telling you that he does not take a no when it comes to perfection. So you're gonna reach out to him, either going through Google or you're gonna go to solariscos.com. And let me tell you something, Sean. Are you going to reach out to him?
I'm gonna reach out to him today.
Well, I'm glad you answered that way because buddy, you need a new roof. Those little Hondas, by the way, those are so cool, like the five different Hondas.
Oh yeah, yeah, for sure. LJ's starting up a little like vintage Honda dealership, very clean.
They were immaculate.
Old school Japanese cars, right-hand drive, left-hand drive, like Type R's, SIR's, I mean, I think, don't quote me, but I think some of them were like his personal cars collection, and he's using, you know, like, hey, it's time to like start something, let them go. And I told him like, it also gives you the opportunity to buy new stuff and like have fun with new stuff.
That Supra was, I know it's not your first color choice, but that Supra is beautiful. What's that color called?
It's a Baltic blue.
Have you seen the Baltic blue Supra, Sean?
Who owns it?
LJ. He doesn't really take it out because it's pretty.
No, I haven't seen it.
It's such an amazing color. I'll have to show you over. It's kind of, it's almost like a-
It's like a turquoise dark blue.
It's like the Mac?
No, it's dark.
Oh, dark.
And it was a pretty rare color for Supra back then. You know, they had red, white, black. Yeah, factory color.
Oh, wow. I don't think I've ever seen like dark blue Supra before.
Yeah. I think that's why LJ wanted it because he's like, yeah, it's a rarer color.
I don't even know how to describe it. Like it's almost kind of like, what's that famous M2 color? Like the newer M2s. Trying to think. It's not Laguna Seca, is it? But it's like that-
Marina Bay?
Marina Bay, but way darker, kinda. I can kind of see that. Like somebody forgot to turn on the lights. I don't know. But nonetheless, you just got back from Formula One.
Yep.
How was that?
I was glad I went and did it one time. I will probably not go to another one at least anytime soon, just because I'm not a big crowds person. And I knew it was gonna be crowded. To say like, oh, you went to Formula One and didn't think it was gonna be crowded. No, I'm not dense. I just wanted to go to Formula One so bad that I would put up with the crowd, right? Experienced it, squeezed in there with all these French Canadians. And I was sitting at the hairpin turn, grandstand 15, and I got to watch Norris pass a car. So I got to watch McLaren do a passing maneuver on my turn. And I don't know if there's really anything else you really look forward to at a race than seeing the car that you're cheering for do a passing maneuver on your turn. And so I was like, yup, we can go. I mean, those last five laps anyways or whatever, but it was like perfect. I was like, we can go now. So, a little GoPros beeping.
You wanna just hit the record button, Shondra? Let's just see what happens.
It's so warm.
Yeah, probably overheating.
It's cooking.
It's cooking, she cooking.
So yeah, that was F1. It was just, I don't know how many people go to that race. It felt like 200, 250,000.
It's big, yeah, it's a lot of people.
But I have no, my number could be completely wrong because it's not like I'm counting heads.
No, but that's what it felt like.
That's what it felt like. And it was like a two hour wait to get on the train to get back to mainland Montreal, which is also another island, but they're all on islands, like the track's on an island, and then Montreal's on another island. And then you take a train to get back. We took an Uber across the bridge, but that still took about an hour. But if you wanted to take the train, then you're huddled in, waiting with everybody else for two hours to get on the train. So it's crazy.
Does it remind you, because I know you used to live in Japan, does it remind you of the trains over there at all?
It's way worse.
Really?
Yeah.
Because, wow.
Like if I get on a train in Japan, you just go get your ticket, get on and be done. It might be a little crowded, but you're not queuing or waiting with a herd of people to get on. And it might be that way when it's, you know, busy time or whatever, but I've never experienced anything like that.
So both of you have been to F1. I have yet to go.
So my experience-
Probably do Vegas then.
Yeah.
Vegas?
You should probably, I mean, it's gonna be the easiest one to get to this season. If you-
Time-wise, you mean?
If you wanted to go, yeah.
Oh, if I wanted to go this year?
If you wanted to check it out.
When is that?
November 18th weekend. Yeah, it's my brother's birthday weekend, so. But no, I went to Miami last year, and it was incredible, don't get me wrong. Again, I had some of the traffic issues or whatever, but there's something to be said when you see something happen in person. Like when Mick took out Vettel in turn one, because we were at turn one, and I saw that, and I wish I'd managed to get a photo of it, but I got to see that happen in real time when Mick hit his mentor, the guy who trained him up. And it's just like, bro, like he felt so bad for the kid. Like that was one of the solidifying moments, the guy kicked off the team, I feel. But it's like, it's amazing to see it in person, but you only see that one turn. But, and I don't know if you had this experience in Montreal, but there's those massive TVs so you can still watch the race.
Yeah, so we had a TV. Okay. They're not as massive, because I think it's an older track, and they're pretty far away from, because it's in the center of the turn on the inside of the track, and we're on the outside, and then we have the runoff, and then there's the grandstand. So because we're on the outside after the runoff, looking at the TV, I can see it, but I can't make out any numbers. Like it's showing you like the track position and stuff.
That is tough to see.
And you, you know, so I'm looking at a French dude's phone.
Yeah.
You know, that's a McLaren fan, and I'm like bumming like off him, like, yo, what's going on? What's the tire change look like? What's this look like? And you're so uninformed about the rest of the race.
Yes.
Except for your turn. And that is the let down. So it's busy, it's chaotic, and then you're squeezed in there, you're on a really crappy bleacher seat, and then you're also looking at a cell phone still to get your other race updates. It's so true. So if I'm painting the accurate picture of like how I felt on Formula One, I was like, I don't feel cheated. I was like, wasn't outrageous.
It's still amazing.
Yeah. I think I paid like $300 for your ticket, so.
For the whole weekend?
Just for race day. But the qualifying was like, I didn't go to qualifying, but I was looking at the tickets. If I went like last minute, it was gonna be like 75 bucks, maybe 50 bucks, but it was raining. So I didn't bother. And I knew it was gonna be the same chaos of the race. And I was like, if I'm gonna do that chaos, I'm gonna do it once. So yeah.
It's tough getting around on those races. And that's a known thing. At most tracks, there's some where they flow great.
Yeah. But I would, I'm wondering if the tracks that are built around like the city streets, like Monaco, I mean, that's just a tiny town. So it doesn't really support it, I would imagine. But like Vegas, because it's built on the streets and you don't have to go to a track and then get back to downtown. It's all there. I'm actually thinking that it might be a lot better than say the ones that are on the tracks.
Why should this be the most chaotic ever? Like you have to walk three hours to go a mile back to your hotel or something.
But that's the thing is like if you stay at the Wynn, the Wynn's part of the track. So there's so many, so as long as you stay at the hotels that are part of where the track is built, then you don't have to go anywhere, right?
It's gonna be so cool. I would love to go to Vegas. I have some friends going to Vegas. It's gonna be gnarly.
Last I looked though, that was the other thing it was like. So Montreal was like 300 bucks. But when I was looking at Vegas, it was 2000.
Yeah, that's what I thought that would be like pretty normal.
It was like 7X for the same, seeing the same cars.
For Miami, I think we paid.
I feel like Miami would be more expensive.
I think it was like 1200 a seat for the whole weekend though, like all three days.
Yeah, that was all three days. Yeah, so if you just bought race day, it would have probably been like six or 700 maybe.
Right, and then when you think in the grand scheme, right? Like if you wanna go to a hockey game or like a really, okay, for example, we're in Minnesota. We don't have good teams. Our tickets don't cost as much. But if we had the f****** like, who's good right now? Like let's say Denver Nuggets, right? If we had to buy tickets to their events, I mean, what are their tickets gonna be? Like three, 400 bucks for a good seat? We had an amazing seat in Miami.
Oh, right.
Because we were in, right at turn one, we saw everything. I mean, we were, so that's why our tickets were a little more expensive, and then you multiply it by three days. So it's like, it's really not outside of like sporting event cost, maybe a little more expensive, but Formula One is also the most expensive sport in the world.
Right. So it's like, yeah, your sponsors are Rolex and the likes of Mercedes and stuff like that. It's going to be expensive, right?
Right. I still think, and I definitely think we got our money's worth. I mean, again, you had some fat guys sitting on you, unfortunately, but like.
Yeah, it was extra people that didn't want to follow the assigned seating of the bleachers.
People are a******* at those events still. Like, it's just like any other sport. Like people just get in your way. Like I had this lady just standing in front of me, and they were filming almost the whole f****** race.
Just standing up in front of you?
Yeah, like just standing in front. So then I have to stand and listen, I'm six, four. So I blocked the next three rows behind me. Don't you turn off on me.
I was gonna say, that's probably maybe one of the nice things about going to a foreign race. Maybe.
I'll let you know.
Because the French Canadians might be a little squeezed in there at times, but they're not loud or obnoxious and they don't stand up. They're very aware that other people paid that same amount of money.
Except for the guy that sat on you.
Yeah, but even then they were like, they apologized.
They just.
But then we made it work. I knew that they wanted, I mean, everybody wants to see the race. So that's why they're squeezed in there. It's like, I get it.
I do really do, like for example, like left turn or a left lane driving in this country, right? Like, you know, it's an issue. People stay in the left lane, but in any other country in the world, you just flash your brights, they get out of the way. Like they know like, hey, I'm coming through.
Yeah.
Like it's a respect thing. So, you know, it's interesting here because...
You flash your lights in foreign countries and honk your horn. And it's just looked at as like letting people know. It's not looked at as rudeness. Over here, it's looked at as rudeness, which is ironic because internationally, we're known as a rude culture, but we don't traditionally flash our lights and honk our horn. So like what?
Well, there's a different stigma behind why we do that. And it's usually to signal that we're a******* and that we want to pass you in an unsafe manner.
Right. When I was driving overseas, driving in Kuwait, I would go really fast. And when you come up on somebody, as long as you're flashing your lights, they move right over. Boom, boom, boom. And it's basically the Autobahn, but for Kuwait. So, you just go as fast as you want. So, yeah. But then here, you come up on somebody, and they make a point to let you know that you're going too fast or something.
Yeah, and then they slow down, and they match the speed with the car next to them.
Yeah.
They do that for the next 10 miles.
Yeah, and so, this is the other thing. So, two parts to this. Sorry, I'm a chatty Cathy on this topic. No, you're good. Right? But I was literally, so the first part is, the other day I was thinking about doing something different on my Instagram, and that's like a little update. Like, I do a lot of pictures and video right now, but I was debating just putting my face in front of the camera, and basically just doing like, how I feel about certain car topics, like on a weekly or daily basis, and just being like, boom, knowledge drop, and then move on to the next one, right? But the one of them was the whole driving in multiple lanes, and like, yeah, how the fast lane now becomes the slow lane when you're in heavy traffic, and the slow lane becomes the fast lane when it's backed up traffic, because people are exiting, right, and merging, so you can go a lot faster in the slow lane when you're in really bad traffic. Obviously, this week, I've been in some bad traffic, and that's why I'm traumatized, and I'm thinking about it now. And then to add to boot to that, yesterday, I was in traffic, and there was an accident, 35, and 494, which is already bad, but with an accident, it's terrible. And then the Taylor Swift concert was going on. So my McLaren does not have Apple CarPlay, I have not updated it yet, and all the radio stations are playing Taylor Swift because there's a Taylor Swift concert. So I get home and immediately complain to the wife, you know, like, if I wanted to listen to Taylor Swift, I would have gone to the concert. I don't need that while I'm in my car, and I only have AMFM. Like, so anyway, side note, had to vent about that.
The McLaren doesn't even have Sirius?
It does, but...
Who pays for it?
I don't pay for it because I don't drive it enough. So I pay for it in my work truck.
Yeah.
No, nobody buys Sirius. You get it with your brand new car for what, two or three years?
I pay for Sirius because I have a work truck and I'm in it a lot of my hours. So I've justified it that way.
I'm more on Spotify, like actually like listening to like podcasts or something. Like, I don't know, I just, radio is just kind of dead to me. Like there's some good stuff.
I need EDM and coffee in the morning.
The EDM channels are really good because otherwise like.
AVB channel, Armand Van Buren channel.
And the.
BPM Chill.
Oh, BPM Chill, yeah. I had that in the McLaren when I first got it. And then, you know, the early days died off and I didn't have it for free anymore. Yeah, yeah.
And it's like, do I really want to pay 60 bucks for this? Like I really only use it maybe like an hour a day, maybe if I drive the car.
If you're in your truck six to eight hours a day, now you're like, all right, I can justify this.
Yeah.
I need something that you want, Spotify. You want to listen to podcasts. You might want some EDM to get going in the morning. You see, you have an eclectic mix because you have that many hours to spread out. But.
And there's like radio shows that I do like listening, you know, personalities, kind of like how like 93X, they have like their morning show. There's like SiriusXM, that there's some radio hosts that I really like listening to because it's like listening to a podcast.
Yeah.
Have you guys seen, I don't know if you have, but you've seen Silicon Valley, right?
All the way.
It's like, I put radio on the internet. That's what this podcast is.
I put radio on the internet.
Tres comas. No, that was one of the best rants you've ever done, by the way. Like you had me on the edge of my seat.
Well. So much better than a Harris rant.
What are you talking about? My rants get...
I'm providing my solution. My outlet of venting, and me possibly doing like a little snippets, and then my vent. Cause I have to have a solution for my problems.
Yeah, so that's gonna make for a really good reel for when we upload this and we can push content.
That's what I'm here for, right? Push that content.
When Harris goes on a rant, I'm just like shaking my head. This, no, the entire time, like I just know whatever he's gonna say is going way too far.
That's what makes Harris Harris.
My solutions are a little bit stiff booted.
Yeah, remove them all. We have to have timelines for people. If you're above the age of 60, you're not allowed on the road. So.
Yeah, it always comes back to poison the water supply. But no, can we take a moment to acknowledge? I don't know who I want to talk to first here because Sean, I love your freaking bald eagle shirt.
Seriously. I want to, yeah. I was going to say something about that earlier.
I like showing up with a little bit of flavor.
You know, like, yeah, I love it. Well, I mean, it makes sense.
Yeah.
It's very fitting.
Thank you.
It is probably one of the best shirts in your closet.
Where did you find it?
I want to say it was like rag stock.
Really?
Yeah.
It even has nice buttons on there. They didn't, they didn't.
Tortoiseshell, like.
Yeah, that's a little coconut or something. Yeah.
I was like, this was out of my comfort zone, but I was like, I got to have this.
Yeah, but it's not bright color.
Yeah.
It's bright, like, as far as like.
It appeals to a lot of people, because, you know, if you're a bird person, you're like, oh, hell yeah, birds. And then if you're like a big like America, f*** yeah guy.
Yeah.
You see the American Eagles. Also, like this guy, this guy brings the Liberty bill every day.
I like it.
I had to bring it up, and I'm sorry to the people that are listening now watching, but the shirt's f****** amazing. I had to acknowledge it, because I keep looking over at it. And I'm just like, this suits you so well.
I was surprised, because like I said, like this is out of my comfort zone. Before this shirt, like I usually just wear like black tees, white shirts, you know, and then I saw this. I'm like, I don't even care if I don't wear it. I just want it in my closet.
Yeah. I'm only upset because now you're wearing it. I don't, I can't have it. Yeah.
Yeah.
That's the only thing I'm upset about. It's a great shirt.
Thank you.
On the flip side, you also finished up your tattoo up in Montreal or got a lot more done, right?
Yeah, I got a lot more done, but the reason I didn't finish, I got sick, Indian food, you know, the norm. And so I couldn't do second day. So we did eight hours and we got a lot of shading done, but yeah, another session and then we'll be done with-
It's fricking gnarly, dude. It's coming together really nice. It's like, what kind of dragon is that?
So a fire dragon. I got my water koi and my fire dragon, you know, just stereotypical, you know, Asian wannabe. So whatever.
Well, you actually been to Japan, so I think it's fine.
Yeah, I lived in Japan 20 years. So it's like, all right.
So yeah, you got the card.
Honorary, I guess.
Is the tattoo artist in Montreal?
Yeah, he's my buddy Nacho. He's actually my roofer's brother, my lead roofer's brother from Mexico that went to Montreal. There's a bigger art community and support there, and he's doing great. He's doing wonderful.
I was gonna say he's from Mexico, but he went too far north.
He already had clients from Canada. Yeah, well, yeah. He already had clients from Canada that worked for Bob Bardier, the airplane manufacturer, that would fly to Mexico to get tattoos. And so when he moved there, it was like he knew.
Oh, he already had clients. He was already set.
Built in, so yeah, he's a great guy. So Nacho, Nacho Ramos.
No, it's good stuff. I mean, yeah, I think he was showing me some of his other work too at some point or something.
Oh yeah, some of his other stuff on Instagram.
Yeah, probably, we'll see. I definitely, you know who else is a great artist? We had him on the podcast here before. Chaz and Jess, they got some great artwork done on their tattoos.
Oh yeah?
Yeah, have you ever seen Jess cause like a tiger tattoo or whatever on her arm? It's ridiculously awesome. So if I ever pull the trigger on a tattoo, I'm going to your guy or their guy.
Yeah.
Their guy's moved to Florida too.
What is Harris's first tattoo gonna look like?
Here comes the comment section.
Yeah, everybody should, yeah, you should poll the audience to figure out what you get.
I 100% won't listen to it, but.
I mean, you should at least take it as as feedback.
Pull a steve-o, just get your face on just blast it on your back.
Yeah, I mean, that might be a big push, but maybe like just a nice cute ankle tattoo or something.
Cute ankle tattoo.
Just to dip your toes in the water.
He kind of looks like a tribal band guy.
You know, I started with a tribal tattoo and I only regretted it, so I had to cover it up.
I am sure that's every person that's ever got one.
Yeah, so don't do that. Don't take the tribal route. So unless it truly says.
Unless it speaks to me.
Do me, do me.
Yeah, thankfully I'm not impulsive. Actually, I was almost impulsive enough one weekend. I was about to text Sean like, hey, who's your guy?
Should probably do like an egg or something.
An egg. An egg.
Yeah.
F****** why?
It's simple, it's small. You got the egg, Volkswagen, you know, like you're all about that egg life.
Yeah, it speaks volume on you.
Speaks to you about your first car. Like if there was something that I would be more happy about would be like my very first car and stuff like that.
Okay, first of all, I'm not f****** tattooing a V6 charger on me. So let's get that out of the way.
Oh, that's right. That's right. Yeah, you go back.
This is my fourth car.
Yeah, yeah, that's right. You had the Wrangler too, the Wrangler truck thing.
And listen, I love the Volkswagen, but I think you are really.
I forget that you had all those other cars because, see, the egg speaks to you so much more.
Finally, the first car that fits him.
That's why I think you should get the eggs. Yeah.
So what about you? Are you going to get the McLaren check mark on you or?
Yeah, upside down Nike swoosh, basically, or a Newport swoosh or whatever you want to call it, right?
Just send it.
Um, no. So I don't have that much.
Yeah, it doesn't really fit with your aesthetic.
Yeah, I like it.
So my aesthetic's a f****** egg.
You don't have an aesthetic yet.
You don't have one yet. If you get the egg, then that's your aesthetic.
And you can build off of like characters.
Yeah, you can get like pancakes with some like...
Yeah, characters make sense because you're a character in your own world, you know, like you have.
I'm not putting a f****** egg. No, if I do go to tattoo route again, I again kind of like, I don't know about your artist style, like it's amazing.
My artist doesn't do Asian normally. So he did a, what do they call it? Those expert courses that you can take. Those pro courses that you can basically take and then you learn everything about like one specific...
Master class?
Master class, that's it. Thank you, Sean.
You did a master class just for you?
He did a master class on dragon tattoos. Specifically before he did, before he came up with the artwork.
Well, it's a whole new genre for him to like tattoo now. So it's like, you're not the only, you're not gonna be the first or the last.
Exactly. And it was nice of him to do that before I just get a random, you know, wonky-eyed dragon on my arm, you know? So yeah, he did that and I loved the work and it made sense and it spoke to me because I'm used to seeing a lot of that dragon and that artwork and what it looks like over. And it is neo-traditional, so it's not super traditional, but there's...
Yeah.
I have a Restomod car, I have a neo-traditional Japanese tattoo.
Yeah, it's not like American traditional Japanese art, you know, style with the heavy, bold lines and...
Yeah, exactly. Because they had to do it back in the day with, you know, by hand, and they didn't have nice new needles and things for shading like they do now, so.
For me, whatever I do, it's gonna be, it has to be like an art piece, like something really complex, like just crazy.
What's your spirit animal?
My spirit animal? Well, I'm a Leo. And I...
So a lion.
Yeah, probably, yeah.
So you could do like a shield or a crest or like a lion face, and then like throw in a couple, like a coat of arms type of thing.
Well, here's a, I have a rough idea in my head, but here's what I was thinking yesterday.
So you can go with a coat of arms.
Yesterday I was walking to the car and I was thinking about like, you know, lions or whatever, like I'm a m************ lion or whatever, whatever, you know, those quotes. And I was thinking like, dude, when you think about it, lions, don't get me wrong, they're vicious, but they are the laziest m************ too. Because like, and I was thinking about how the heat is affecting me because the heat makes me super lazy. And I'm like, hey, the lions, they sunbathe all day too. So they get super lazy too. And I'm like, I'm a m************ lion, I'm lazy. So that's my take on lions.
Are sharks lazy?
Sharks?
Yeah.
I mean, I don't know, they just kind of float.
They just kind of float when they're not devouring a whale or something, right?
One of my favorite jokes from-
Apex predators are lazy predators.
One of my favorite jokes from Bill Buhr is, he was talking about how people are like, oh, well, shark attacks only happen in shallow water. So you don't have to worry about deep sea diving. He's like, shark attacks happen in shallow water because that's where the f****** people are.
If the people are in the deep sea, then they happen in the deep sea.
I don't know, man. I don't f*** with the ocean.
Not a huge fan. I swam with dolphins recently. I think I probably talked to them.
Yeah, we talked about that last time. We don't need to go back there.
Yeah, we went out to the dolphins again, dude. It's still emotional.
We had to cut a lot of time.
We can talk about something a little bit more current, maybe, like the titan. Like that just gives us a whole nother reason to stay.
Oh, I don't know. This is not gonna end well for Harris' cancelability.
Yeah.
It's just like we need to stop going places that humans aren't meant to go, you know. I'm all for like exploring the world, but there's some parts of the world that don't need to be explored.
Well, to me, looking at old rusted iron is the same as if you go to a different shipwreck because it's through a TV screen.
Yeah. Like they made a documentary on it.
Yeah, that was good enough.
Yeah.
And they've already explored it without people down there. So we don't have to send people down there.
Yeah.
That was the advantage of sending unmanned submersible things. It's like, we have drones now. Why do we want to take and put people back into aircraft? Because we now can do it without having the risk of human life.
Yeah.
So we basically added the liability back to the submarine. Like, come on.
Could you imagine, it's like one of the Walt Disney World rides where they put you in the, I can't remember the name of the ride, but you get in the submarine.
The submarine one?
The submarine.
Yeah, I've been on it.
And it's like, it just plays like a, you know, like on the monitor, Yeah. Port holes, it shows you like, oh, like there's a bunch of fish and everything. They could have just done that. They could have just put these billionaires in this tube. They wouldn't have known. And they could have just played the video.
Put it on hydraulics, sloshed it around a little bit, you know? Made some water noises and some seagulls as they're going down. Like they done.
They really paid $250,000 to look at a TV screen. Absolutely insane.
I'd like to point out that in a week and a half when this episode airs, this is not going to be very relevant anymore because we're going to be on to the next crazy thing that the news puts out.
The news is having a field day with this. They are going to stretch this out as long as possible.
It is a bit of a bummer. Like I get it. I'm the first to make a joke out of anything.
Let's be clear about that.
But it also is a really s***** way to go.
No, I'm actually really surprised by how many people were, you know, laughing at the expense of, you know, what happened to these people. You know, it was like day one, like they heard like, oh, the Titan submarine is missing 13,000 feet below the, you know, sea level. And it's like already people were, you know, like saying like, how can rich people find dumber ways to die?
Yeah, yeah.
It's a bummer.
They love tubes too. That was the other thing I ever heard. Rich people love tubes. So like, I guess that's like kind of a synonymous thing with like Bezos, Elon and everything else. They like just, they love building like tube companies, right? And then not being successful.
The spaceships, SpaceX, trying to get up to Mars. Yeah, the tunnels.
They originally had like a tube going into outer space before they did Blue Origins for Amazon and stuff like that. Like that was like gonna be there at the time.
The space elevator.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, the tube.
All right, I think that just means we avoid tubes.
Yeah, tubes are bad.
Yeah.
I think tubes are incredible.
Well, he's gonna die.
Yeah, we know how that one ends.
Cars, that's what we're here for.
Yeah, that's true. The Titan was a car. It was made from carbon fiber. Some of the most expensive cars in the world.
I just heard it was made from outdated carbon fiber. Like it was past its shelf life.
Well, outdated meant for airplanes, not submersible.
Yeah. Yeah.
No, and that's what... So listen, carbon fiber is a great material, but it has its works and features, as Doug may say. For example, Mark's GT 500, the one that I drove last year, the thousand horsepower one that I can't stop talking about, is the second most talked about car in his podcast after Vipers and Supras. He had a f****** air leak in that wheel because that's what carbon fiber does. Like if it's not absolutely perfect, it's a little dangerous.
Right. And does it have an aluminum core anyways? And if it doesn't, then I would be like even more concerned about it because it would have an air leak. Right? Like, so how would you fix that? You'd give it structure behind the carbon fiber and that would be solid aluminum. So then it's like lost.
Made it from aluminum. Yeah.
And why are we doing carbon fiber exactly? Was it because it's strong or because it's, you know, whatever.
Well, rotational mass.
Yeah, rotational mass.
I'm saying for a submarine.
Oh, for a submarine. Oh, right.
Like, why don't we just stick with the classic f****** metal? Cause like, even, okay, even subs that go whatever.
We've already successfully done it unmanned with metal. Never had it, I mean, as far as I know, you know, like no robots died with the unmanned.
But even like the metal subs that we have today, like when you get within a certain depth, you can literally see the squeeze, the metal breathing.
They put a rope between like, you know, on the inside, from side to side, and it'll get a curve, right? As they go down and stuff like that.
That's what all that noise, when you know, you hear like the submersible noise underwater, and you hear that moaning. It's literally the metal just bending from the sheer pressure.
Imagine a soda can when you put pressure on it, and then you flick it, it crumbles, right? So now take the submersible, put it underwater, it's under the pressure. And then it just slightly bumps into the boat they're looking at, crinkle, right? Like that was my thought process behind it.
And there were the contract that they had to sign, and it literally said like in it, the submersible is not regulated by any safety regulation.
They avoided a lot of regulation apparently. Like I was, again, I didn't fact check this because I'm a Facebook expert.
I mean, what government agency though do we want to even employ to have a safety agency to even certify something like that? Do you want to waste tax dollars to create an agency to certify something like that? So that rich people can be safe in a tube? Niche. Yeah, get out of here.
Group of people.
Yeah. They can start their own rating agency.
And that's why the guy was like, I'm doing this for innovation and you experts can't tell me what to do just because you think this is what's safest.
But he wasn't in it, right?
Yeah, he was. The CEO was.
CEO is the one that drives it.
Oh, okay.
Yeah, he's gone. It's a bummer.
Solid.
I feel like some precautions could have been taken or a lot. I don't know s*** about submarines. Everybody became an expert in the last two weeks.
Yeah, we're all submarine experts, baby.
Well, I listen to the experts, you know, and that's who are the ones that are-
No, the experts.
Talking on the news programs.
The expert, apparently, since he was innovating, is gone.
Well, no, he's not the expert. He disregarded the experts and was like, no, me smart, I'm an innovator.
Yeah, when you think you know it all or you think you're the smartest person in the room, that's usually when you're not.
I hate to keep referencing comedians here, but Joe Rogan has a f****** joke about who the f*** are we sending up in Rockets? Like Elon Musk isn't getting in that f****** Rocket. We're not sending somebody else up. He's like, enjoy, send us in. He's like, yeah, we're just f****** the sky with this big dick shaped structure. Like just sending somebody up there. Good luck.
Goodbye.
Cause you'll never see, I mean, actually, I'll scratch that the one person we did see do it was Richard Branson. He went up. Didn't Bezos go up too? Yeah, he went up with that stupid cowboy hat.
Yeah, the argument though would be...
They were in the war, right?
Yeah, they're still in our...
You're still 120,000 feet up. I mean, there's still a lot of things that can go wrong.
Yeah, just like the submarine, you know? They're not at the bottom of Marianas Trench. They're just at the Titanic. So...
Yeah, how deep is the Marianas Trench go? Is it like 25,000 plus?
25, yeah.
24, I think.
Yeah, five miles, yeah.
I can't believe James Cameron even weighed in on the situation. Did he?
Oh, he did?
Yeah.
What'd he say?
He was like, you gotta be kidding me. This is so...
What are you doing?
Yeah. And, my gosh, okay, we don't have to talk about this anymore. It is...
Yeah, you're gonna have to cut half of it.
We were getting to the point where we were getting so far away from where we started. What?
You said it's carbon and it's cars, man.
Yeah, we're basically inventing our own version of the tube.
It's like the Bugatti that went into the water. Come on, let's tie it back to cars.
How else can we get billionaires to give us money by putting them in dangerous tubes?
Well, when you think about it, you better don't do it, because you might go with them.
Well, I just need to make a contract that says I'm not liable for any damages or deaths.
Yeah, but when you're piloting the thing...
Well, I won't be the pilot. That's simple as that.
Fair enough. Yeah. Yeah, whatever. Have you seen... Oh, man, don't get me started. I watched the Amazon reviews of the remote control. What is that? The remote control that piloted the sub, right? You could buy that same remote on Amazon. So if you go look at the reviews now, they're just hilarious. Do not buy, did not work, only goes down, doesn't go up.
Wait, those are...
Have you seen the remote control?
It looks like a really bad version of a GameCube remote.
It was supposed to be for an Xbox. It was, they couldn't even use a normal Xbox remote. This guy cut so many corners. I can't believe it.
Okay.
If I got in that sub and I saw that's how they were moving around, I would just be like, I don't know, keep the money.
I'm not going today, keep the money, I'm gonna keep my life.
To go in that thing.
Yeah. You're telling me they f****** got like a video game controller.
We're gonna really beat this down, but I'm also gonna say one other thing. Maybe these really rich people were in like a no balls situation, right? Group of dudes, right? And we're all like, you got no balls if you get in, right? And they're all saying it to each other. Double dog dare you. And they all basically guilty each other to get in. And then that's how they did it. Because otherwise, if they didn't no balls each other, there's no reason to get in.
I mean, I will talk about the other side because I understand when there is something to be said for, you know, you want to exploration, you want to do new things. It's not new.
We've already been there.
But to actually be down there yourself, again, you know, it was a tiny screen. It's like, you know, it is a little bit of a flex when you come back up. Like, yeah, I went down there. You know, like, I don't know.
A flex to who?
That you spent that money going down.
All right, first of all, $250,000 to a billionaire is f****** nothing.
No, no, but that's what I mean. Like, so who would be a flex to? Because another billionaire that it would be a flex to could just do it as well if they wanted.
It's in, when you get to that point in life, I feel like it's about a one-upping in your experiences in life.
Yeah, did they not have like an adrenal gland like receptor that could be overloaded?
Exactly. No, they overloaded their adrenal glands. So now they're like.
They're doing the opposite of like free climbing. They're free diving, like, they're not even free diving though.
Free climbing is too much work.
Yeah.
If they had a Sherpa that could carry them up the mountain, that's what they would pay, and then they could brag about it.
That's fair. That's fair. So anyways.
Long story short, people.
Beat that dead.
Let's not, yeah, we've really beat that f****** horse down. I mean, that's what Elmer's glue there, dog. That f****** horse is glue. All right, cool. We got that out of our system. All right, there's a few different ways we can take this. Datsun, this new Datsun you're getting. Speak. Actually, no, f*** the Datsun. F*** the Datsun.
I want to talk about your watch collection.
No, no, no, I don't want to talk about that either. Let's talk about your new rental company.
Oh, yeah. So I just started a rental company with business partner, Max.
Cloud 9 Rentals.
Cloud 9 Rentals.
Oh, that's you?
It's one car. Yeah, that's me.
I've been seeing little ads recommended to me. I'm like, what the f*** is this?
Hey, it's one car right now. We're just exploring, like dipping our toes in the water as far, it's a Porsche 911, Cabriolet 991. I wanted a car that would speak to, locals wanna get away, don't wanna own a car, kinda like boat club, but you don't wanna own a boat, but you can't justify, you don't have the space, don't wanna maintain it, all that things, right? But you wanna try a nice car and just get away for the weekend, go to wine country, you do something like that, need it for wedding photos, something like that. So we got a kind of a cream puff, 911, silver, black interior, pretty base.
It's a great looking car.
But looks the part. Performs, still handles wonderfully. Yeah, and we're just trying to bring a different experience to the rental car side of things too, like showing up, little white glove service, if you will, little treats, gift basket, you know, the nine, like, hey, we appreciate you wanting to rent with us, right? Reflecting that appreciation, because it's a business venture for us, and it's just kind of fun now. But if it works, then who knows, right? We want to add to it, looking at a G-Wagon currently as possibly another vehicle.
The Porsche Cayenne.
Yeah, our Porsche Cayenne. And we want, I mean, a lot of that will be dictated by what people tell us, like, oh, we'd really like it if you had this. So hey, chime in, text me, message me, Cloud 9 rents on Instagram. It's our Instagram handle. And just tell us, like, hey, what do you think would be fun to rent? That would make sense. Because we want to add to it.
Actually, this is a great topic. Let's talk about this. So we want to try to cater to that, you know, again, the white glove service, some really cool cars, get away, have some fun. I think this would be a great thing for people to chime in on. Let's see, what cars would you like to rent here? I mean, there's a certain demographic you're trying to rent to, like, for example, you're not trying to get into supercar territory because, specifically through Turo.
Because the insurance issues, when you get that high, and we're not that big yet, and it would be a lot of capital invested in one car, as you can imagine.
And, you know, if I wanted to rent, like, a supercar, I probably wouldn't do here in Minneapolis.
My season's so much shorter, you wouldn't be able to enjoy it as much.
Yeah, I would go to, like, Miami, where you kind of, like, want to show off.
Exactly.
You know, you want to show off to-
Las Vegas.
Club Live.
Yeah, Hollywood.
You want your car parked out front.
Right.
Your rental, I should say, not your car.
So it's kind of like that mid-tier, you know? But for Minnesota, I look at it as prime.
Yeah.
Like, prime tier.
No, I think it's great for, like, a 9-11, for out here, would be a great daily. You know, you could drive that in the winter, in the summer, and then you can use that to go to dinner, you can go to that for lunch, you can drive around YZETTA.
Your depreciation curve is minimal, so, like, if you're holding it for a long time, you're like, whatever, it's a Porsche.
Yeah, so I don't think you need to, like, rush into, like, supercars, and SUVs are definitely, like, the most popular cars to, like, rent. Especially if, like, you're looking to have people rent from you, I feel like SUVs are a good way to, like, start getting your name out there.
Well, it's bread and butter, they don't depreciate crazy, I mean, depending on which ones you get, of course, but, ultimately...
Rent year round versus the Cabriolet.
Correct, but from a renter's perspective, we definitely want to hear from people, like, what is something that you would love to see Erik add to his fleet? So, for example, we are talking about things, again, like the Porsche Cabriolet, you know, Porsche Cayenne, the G-Wagon, Jaguar F-Type.
Maybe, like, a Land Rover or something like that. Like, think of something that you would want to drive, even though you're local and you would rent, but you'd want to take and enjoy, like, it for a trip or a weekend or a few weekdays or something like that.
I would love to rent, like, an old school muscle car, like a 69 Camaro.
You know...
Or, like, a Bronco.
I'm glad you mentioned that. You know why I'm really glad you mentioned that? Because they have Turo Classics. It's separate from Turo, right? And it's a whole other entity, just like Turo, but it's just for the Classics.
It's like 1980 and...
If you search Minnesota market, Turo Classics, there's not a single car listed.
Really?
Yeah, which sucks because now if I get one, it's really hard to show people that it exists, right? Because you're not mixed in with all the other Turos on regular Turo listings. But there's a way that people could rent Classics through that platform.
But I want that. That's actually something that I want to go out and rent like a Bronco for me and my wife and my baby girl, and we can cruise around town. That would be so much fun.
Right. The cool thing is you don't have a depreciation curve because it's a Classic.
Yeah.
Right? The bad thing is you have an extremely different amount of liability on a Classic. Right? Like if you get an, excuse me, fender bender with a Bronco, Yeah. It's just a different bill.
Well, a lot more things to fix. I mean, sourcing parts, depending on what you get. Obviously, this would be something where you want a lot of cars.
How much would somebody spend on a Classic?
Yeah, like what would a 65 Fastback rent for?
Right. And there's unknowns because there's literally nothing listed on Turro Classics. And it's Minnesota, so we're already a different region under Turro. You can't look at what rents in Vegas, as far as Camaros and Mustangs, and go, oh, that's gonna do great in Minnesota.
Yeah. It's not. I mean, you can look at similar areas, kind of like Denver, probably, or Milwaukee, other Midwestern states.
Yeah, Milwaukee is quite the tourist destination.
It is, actually. I mean, for people, well, for people that are from here, you know?
People, Milwaukee might come here, we might go Milwaukee.
All right. I gotta crack a joke here.
I guess, whatever, Milwaukee's not that cool, but I like it.
For beer, so we want a bunch of drunks renting the car. No.
I mean, people drink everywhere, so. I mean.
But if we're gonna go visit some beer places.
Yeah, I mean, like, you could go to a lot of different breweries here, though. I mean. I just pitched wine country in the 9-11.
Yeah, go ahead.
Yeah, get sloshed.
Yeah. I guess it's okay to dig on the-
Just don't drive afterwards.
I dig on everybody, let's be clear about that.
Like, that's why you have two people in the car, right?
Yeah.
One is your Dee Dee, right? So, like your wife is probably pregnant, so you don't have to worry, right? Like she can always be the designated driver.
Doesn't the 911 have backseat?
It does for infants.
Yeah.
Yeah.
For amputees.
Yeah, yeah, amputees and infants.
I'm excited. This is gonna be a great venture. I'm excited to see where you go with it. I really-
Yeah, super cool, man. I'm looking forward to supporting you.
Yeah. Rent that 911 someday.
I know Joey from G-Force is renting it right now.
Yeah, Joey from G-Force has it. He took it to wine country. He's just doing some video and pictures and enjoying it with his lady. I'm excited.
Well, s***, okay. I think we touched on everything we wanna touch on today, but there is one thing that we never asked Erik on this show because he was our first guest.
Well, you had a thing after me?
Yeah, well, it was a couple episodes after, but now we have a question that we like to ask all our guests, and it is we're gonna ask you to pick three vehicles. One's gonna be your daily, one's your track car, and one's your show car.
I love this. Okay, daily, track, show.
Yes, sir.
And you can get crazy with it. You can unlimited money.
Is the idea that I don't pick cars that I already own? Because I mean, that's basically what I'm building out.
I mean, your tastes change all the time. So, you know, you could say like what you currently drive.
But if I daily something, okay, I'm only asking this because I don't want to screw up this answer. But I would love to daily something that I could daily in Texas that I can't necessarily daily here.
That's fine.
So like if I lived in Texas, I would daily a McLaren 720S convertible.
Can't go to Home Depot with that.
He's not going to go to Home Depot with that. That's his daily.
It's my daily. If you ask about Home Depot, I still have a work truck.
Yeah.
Unlimited money. Keep that in mind.
Unlimited money. Still daily. Then I guess I would go to 765LT convertible. But I really love that car. Gorgeous. So I kind of... A little bit of me regrets buying the 570 and not just...
Waiting.
Like risking it or waiting or being more patient to get the 700, right?
Well, you can always trade up.
Yeah, but now I'm making the 570 so much mine. So unique to me that I'm just like...
It's gonna be hard.
It's just in.
Well, if you have a nice hail season.
Yeah, we got hail. But that would be the daily...
I think that's the most irresponsible daily answer that we've gotten.
Really?
It's up there.
The 765, I don't think anybody's strayed quite that far.
Yeah.
That's a f****** race car.
I have found that I can put my luggage in that car, the 570, which has the same trunk, right? And it's treated me well. And I don't have kids. I have a five pound Chihuahua, and it would work for me in Texas.
Oh yeah, 100%. And that's what I mean. Your answer for a daily was...
Well, I want to say it was an RSQ8, I think.
I rented one in Vegas.
Did you like it?
Yeah, I did like it.
It's a Urus, but for the common man.
Yeah, yeah, yeah. And that was why I rented that instead of the Urus when I was in Vegas, because I was like, the rental was like, I don't know, like maybe $250 a day versus like $700 a day or something. And I was like, it's the same car.
I also like the back of the RSQ8. I think it has a little more space in the rear than like a Urus, because a Urus is just...
I think it's a little bit more understated too. It's the same car, just not have to...
Not Lambo style.
Yeah. And it's not... And arguably, the Urus isn't a Lambo. So you're being overstated.
It is still an Audi.
Yeah. So it's like so many of the control arms and things like that have the Audi badge.
It's hilarious, yeah. Track Day.
Track Day. Gosh, I could go with the same car, because it is a 765.
You can get wild with the modifications. We had somebody come here. What did Dave say?
Can I have any car? Any car. Or Track Day.
Yeah, somebody said a custom built track car. I can't remember the name of the track car, but it was like a kit car with a Judd V10 in it. Like get wild with it.
I think I would really like a LMP car. Yeah, something like a GT3 car, like I'm really torn because I like them all. So I really like old school, like Ferrari F430, but GT3 spec, so that you're in a race car, but it looks like a F430.
It's got the style.
Yeah, and I've always really wanted either a 360 or a 430. That was my car, like as a kid, was a 360. And it naturally evolved into a 430, and it has a better trans now.
Bigger, better, yeah.
So that's why I kind of already wanted one anyways. And so if I had to get a track car, I could get that as the track car.
Yeah, and I know, or well, I've heard, I don't know, that the 430s are easy to work on. They're one of the last Ferraris that you can work on.
Yeah, the 430 and the 458, I feel like are the sweet spot.
I don't know about the 458.
Not that I can work on a 458, but the less complexity, you're not going to be hit with these insane Ferrari bills, if you will. I mean, they're Ferrari bills, but they're not, you know, SF90 Ferrari bills.
Yeah, I feel like, but like touching on a $100,000 F430 or like, that's about what they go for nowadays versus like a $200,000 458. Like, I'm getting work professionally done on the 458.
You might do some of your own, you do your own oil changes.
Yeah, the oil changes is supposed to be easy. You can do exhaust work on it yourself. Like, it's very...
Most of it's accessible on top side.
It's a lot of accessible. You don't have to remove the whole body panels.
That's it. When I leave here, we're gonna go F430 shopping. I'm like, I've already always wanted one.
If you get one for Cloud 9, I will rent it.
All right, deal.
I just want 100% of the car that I want.
Just gotta find one at $100.
So I can rent the daily rate at like $10,000? So, that's the struggle, right? I think people would rent it. It is setting that daily rate because it is an older car, right? And now it has to go to classics because it's so much older. It doesn't, I can't put it on regular Turo and stuff like that.
Yeah.
It's tough. It's tough. But, and then, so that's track, right? F430 GT3.
Good car.
With air jacks, you know, the whole nine, right?
Fun.
Right, you gotta have air jacks.
Show car.
Show car.
You gotta start adding music to these, like, thinking music.
Yeah, sorry, I'm gonna have dead space.
No, you're fine, you're fine, no worries.
I wasn't ready for it because I'm building my show car, my Datsun Verlady. The only other version of that that I really want, because I want, as part of my Datsun collection, is a Z. I used to have one, I had a 71 240Z. It was one of my first cars, it was my first American stateside car. So I would like to get another 240Z again, but a resto mod build with a RB26 from a GTR, and it'd be a beautiful Z show car to match, fit my Datsun collection, my Pokemon collection, if you will, of Datsuns. It's fun collecting Datsuns, side note, because they're relatively inexpensive. Like, you can't just build out a plethora of Porsches, you know, without dropping bags.
Yeah.
Thankfully on this segment, you have all the bag.
Yeah. But just so everybody, like I'll be pretty transparent. My fair lady that I built, I bought it for $4,000. So like, it was running and driving when I bought it too. So it was not pretty, not great, whatever, but a running and driving 67 fair lady for $4,000, and then you get to build on that.
Can we just acknowledge how worthless that the running and driving part is since you don't have any of the original drive train in there?
Yeah, yeah, it was kind of a shame that we dumped the original carbureted engine.
They both just turned off at the same time.
Don't worry about it, this is a wrap it up. But yeah, but nonetheless, I'm glad that, yeah, I know it's a really hot GoPro, battery is melting in there. I really wish GoPro would figure that out. That's my only qualm with GoPros by the way, is that they just don't read.
I've got one that I don't use, except for when snowboarding. So I should just donate it to the podcast.
Ultimately, what the goal is, as we get more sponsors in the futures, I want to get more of those like camcorder style ones because they're just all reliable.
Oh, yeah, they just keep going.
They just keep going. Yeah, whereas the GoPros, it's just, I don't know, that's a whole, this is a Harris b****.
But I love the side note, because you asked me my question, I just wanted to like throw in like feedback. I love the production quality. I love how it's just like from six months ago to now, it's just boosh.
You should see what the studio back at my garage looks like now. I built a whole sound booth for us, basically out of PVC pipes. And I got these huge moving blankets that go around us like the egg cartons stable on the wall. We haven't gone there yet.
It sounds a lot better when we record over there. The nice thing about this conference room where we're at at Cars and Caves, once a month, come out, is that we don't have to worry about audio issues in here, besides like little kids coming up here, maybe.
Third Saturday of the month?
Last Saturday.
Last Saturday of the month.
So it's not fourth, last.
Last Saturday of the month, yep.
It's great. So we're not doing the double headers anymore, so now we can actually go enjoy the show a little bit, since we're ending here at like 1030 or whatever. So to recap this episode, let's make sure everybody's giving some rental ideas here for ol Erik. Make sure to...
I appreciate feedback.
Feedback's incredible. You're also looking for... Just for the sake of wrapping up, we'll see who gets this far in. Are you still looking for people to sling roofs for you?
Yeah. I mean, yeah. We're hiring sales reps. It's a process. I won't be... To be nice about it, we're picky, I guess.
No, you should be picky, because this is people representing your brand. People are door knocking. I mean, however they get leads, but yeah, to finish things up, where can people find you?
eriksc.garage is Instagram, and then cloud9rents is the other Instagram. So either one, hit me up, add me, follow me, whatever, and then just message me on there.
Yeah, and then you guys can follow me, Sean Bryant. I got an Instagram page, 1mnmopar. I'm thinking about changing my name, trying to make it a little bit more on brand.
We're trying to figure something else for Sean.
We'll see what will happen in the future.
Not so just Mopar?
Yeah, 1m slash Mopar.
Yeah.
Because that's his hand, a 1mnmopar. He's got a 1m and then a Mopar.
And thank you for explaining that part.
Yeah, and I always looked at it as 1MinnesotaMopar. Because it's Mn and we're in Minnesota. So side note, I'm glad you just explained that to me.
So nonetheless, we're trying to figure out something that's more generalized, because Sean wants to get into doing some YouTube and some content in general. So ideas are always welcome. As for me, for those of you that are relatively new to the podcast, I'm Minnoxide on everything. Thanks for watching, everyone. We'll see you next time.
